Do students need Motivation?

Chapter 9

Question 2) State at least 5 general principles that are implications for teaching from motivation theory.

Teachers should change up the way that they teach a class. Instead of using one type of teaching like command they should use guided teaching or a self check style teaching.

Teachers should also make sure that they set their lessons up to have all of their students succeed and also allow for improvement. I student that fails over and over at a task will not have the motivation to keep trying. If the task allows for change to make it easier the student can still succeed.

The tasks that are being taught also need to be proven meaningful to the student. The teacher needs to show them that the skill is needed and important for other reasons than to get a grade.

One thing that is really big is using external forms of motivations like prizes for the most improved or use a reward of being able to be a captain for next class. If the rewards are used correctly they can create higher motivation from the students in the class.

Another thing that to have a fun learning environment. If the kids have fun in what they are doing and make them laugh they will be motivated and have fun.

Question 3) Describe nine ways that teachers can promote the personal growth of students through personal interaction.

1. Being enthusiastic about what you are teaching I feel is the most important. Because it will get the student more involved in the lesson being taught.

2. Teachers should also show that they care about their students and make sure that the students see that. They can show that by not allowing off-task behaviors to occur and to bring the students back from off-task behaviors in a positive way.

3. If teachers can learn the names of their students instead of just yelling hey you it make it more personal when you can complement them on doing something well by calling them by their name. It lets them know that the teacher has noticed them enough that they know the students name.

4. A way that can help with personal growth can also be used for motivation is to have different ways a skill can be practiced.

5. Another way teachers can promote personal growth can also be used also in motivation is to change the type of learning environment from command to guided learning and self-check type learning

6. Teachers should also link their lessons to either the students or their own life, to show that the skills being learned can be use after they get out of school.

7. Allow students to see their own development by having them assess their own skill through out the unit. Or have them score themselves at the beginning and end of the unit and show them the growth that they have gone through.

8. During the unit make sure to give feedback to every kind of student in your class. Do not just pick out your best students to give feedback to or just your worst. You want to show all of the student attention so they do not drift off and become unmotivated.

9. A really big thing is to have really good planning of your classes. With having good planning it allows you to have more fun and create a better learning environment for your students. It also shows the students that you are actually taking time to plan out what is going to be going on during class and not just throwing it together at the last minute.

Catching a football Take 2

Transcript         Time Coding

In this Lab I tried to not to address the class as "you guys" but I did it 3 times. I thought that I didn't say it after I did my lesson. Another thing that this video pointed out to me was that my checking for understanding is me just saying alright and no one really answering me. I feel like i gave good ques though for catching low and high passes. One thing that is linked to this is me kind of encouraging the students to sit home and watch a four hour long Super bowl instead of doing something active.

Factors that Influence Learning

3. What are the requirements for learning motor skills? What do each of these requirements mean for the teacher of motor skills?

The requirements for learning motor skills are having the prerequisite skills for the the new motor skill, and also the student needs an accurate cognitive understanding of the task at hand. In order for a student to learn how to do a handstand they need to know and understand on how to do a prerequisite skill like a switcharoo which helps them get the feeling of being on their hands but not completely vertical. The teacher will need to be able to complete that skill to a degree that is correct and can perform different levels of the skill to show the kids progressions to the skill being taught. The teacher will also have to be able to motivate the students and show the student how this is a meaningful skill. In order to do this the teacher should change the environment that the students are performing the skill or modify the skill to work on different parts of the skill. The next thing the teacher needs to do is make sure that the students is not only performing the skill correctly but know they are by hearing seeing or actually allowed to do the skill.

4. What is the difference between the way closed skills, open skills, discrete skills, and serial skills should be taught?

Open skills should be taught in many different environments and closed skills should be practiced in repetition. The same goes for serial skills and discrete skills that serial skills should be taught in different environments and discrete skills should be taught in repetition.

How to improve Teaching physical education

1. what is meant by the idea that teaching is a goal-oriented activity?

Goal-oriented activity is having goals set for your students and having the goals be obtainable. Some goals that would be ideal for students in physical education would be for the students to be competent in 6 activities proficient in 3 across 3 categories by the end of the students senior year.

4. Why is the process that teachers choose to use to teach content important?

It is important because the teacher needs to be able to make their lessons effective and meaningful to their students. If the students do not like, or do not see how this could help them later on in life the students will be turned off to the tasks. Also if the student isn't learning how to do the activity correct then how will they later on in their life.

5. Why is the movement task-student response unit of analysis so important in physical education?

It is important because teachers can take a task that didn't produce the outcome they thought the task would, and they can change the task to increase the success rate. It can also allow the teacher to see if he can allow his or her students can be allowed to choose their own groups without fooling around in the groups and also work well together.
